InnovENT-E innovation tour: time for a review

In 2019, the InnovENT-E Institute organized a nationwide innovation tour. The aim of this initiative was to identify the skills needs of small and medium-sized businesses, with a view to helping structure the future actions of the institute and its members, including our school. The resulting report, "Regards croisés sur le développement de l'innovation et l'international dans les PME-PMI de territoires d'industrie : bilans et perspectives", and a summary of the tour have just been published. InnovENT-E: Contributing to economic development by developing innovation and export skills in SMEs

An ambitious, co-constructed project

InnovENT-E (Innovation pour les ENTreprises à l'Export) is a nationwide program developed within the framework of the "Investissements d'Avenir" program and its "Training" component IDEFI (Initiatives D'Excellence en Formations Innovantes).

Founded jointly by the INSA Group (Institut National des Sciences Appliquées), the University of Lorraine, the UT Group (Uni¬versités de Technologie) and the CESI Group, its aim is to help SMEs and SMIs develop their innovation and export skills.

Supported by the French government

InnovENT-E was inaugurated on October 12, 2012, in the presence of Nicole Bricq, French Minister for Foreign Trade, and Fleur Pellerin, French Minister for SMEs, Innovation and the Digital Economy. It benefits from the support of the French government, as it resonates with its priorities in terms of employment, innovation, support for the competitiveness and internationalization of SMEs/SMIs, and training.

A shared Innovation/Export training offering focused on the needs of SMEs

The InnovENT-E project of excellence offers a complete range of shared training courses from Bac+2 to Bac+8 level, based on a skills reference domcument, co-constructed with companies, accessible in-class or by distance learning, and aimed at students in initial training as well as company employees and jobseekers. This is an unprecedented offering of innovative, digitalized, learner-centered training and teaching methods.

A vehicle for transforming higher education and businesses

InnovENT-E is a vector of pedagogical transformation and digital transition in higher education and business.

InnovENT-E is a vehicle for educational transformation and digital transition in higher education and business. To achieve this, InnovENT-E has relied on inter-institutional collaboration, the development of communities of practice, the pooling of resources and tools, and the recruitment of pedagogical engineers who support trainers on a daily basis in the transformation and adaptation of their teaching resources.

InnovENT-E: High stakes for all stakeholders

For SMI-SME :

Only 1 in 20 SMI-SMEs export (only 15% of national sales), whereas 1 in 2 innovative SMI-SMEs are present in the export market. Increasing their skills in the fields of innovation and export seems to be one of the keys to their development, whether by recruiting specifically trained young graduates or by giving their employees access to this knowledge and know-how. For them, it's also an opportunity to forge closer ties with the higher education sector, enabling each party to get to know the other better and envisage new collaborations. Finally, as a spin-off, it's an opportunity to move forward with the digital transition.

For students:

In addition to acquiring specific skills dedicated to the development of innovation and export, the aim is to enable students in initial training to change their outlook on SMI-SMEs, too often considered by them as unattractive for their future career, even though they represent 98% of French companies, 50% of jobs and a wealth of activity that is too little known.

For employees of SME/SMIs, InnovENT-E offers access to dedicated continuing education modules at the cutting edge of innovation/international knowledge.

For local communities:

The local presence of SMI-SMEs is a guarantee of local dynamism, since these companies will be able to find the skills they need. It is also a vector of attractivity for our young graduates, who will find reasons to stay in the region where they were trained.

For higher education institutions:

Appropriating new ways of teaching and developing proximity to SMEs/SMIs are essential conditions for these institutions to adapt to the challenges of the 21st century.
